A View You Will Never Forget

This is a poem about Fatherhood. Nothing challenges you like having children. It’s the most purposeful, joyful and rewarding experience but at the same time it can grind you into the dust sometimes. The sleepless nights, the lack of control, the hospital visits, doubts, dreams, hopes and fears can be overwhelming. There are lots of handbooks out there for being a father but in the end it’s a learn on the job kind of gig. Your child is as experienced at being a child as you are at being a parent, but they’re much faster learners. At some stage you discover that Yoda was right and that ‘we are what they grow beyond’. All that time, all that love, sweat, tears and dedication – all leading to the moment when they step confidently away.
